Who We Are, How We Came to Be, and Why

The Magnus Group was formed in 2009 as the result of a simple belief: That there was a better way to conduct business in the high-risk, high-exposure world of professional investigations.  Its founder set about gathering experienced people to help create and run an agency that carried ethics and integrity at the core of its operating principles.  By bringing together a team of educated, experienced and motivated investigators that were all dedicated to the idea that a higher standard is both achievable and maintainable, The Magnus Group exists today as a bonded and state-licensed Private Detective Agency based in Nebraska, that combines both skill and integrity, resulting in long-term relationships and a reputation for excellence that shines among our clients (from all over the United States) as well as the public at large.

Meet Our Founder and President

Brett Brodersen was born in Omaha, raised and educated in the Midwest and, after college, he began working in corporate America in insurance and banking, serving as both analyst and investigator, in domestic as well as international statutory law.  In insurance he was nicknamed “the bloodhound” by his superiors for his ability to "sniff out" fraudulent claims, and he formally attained the title of "special investigator" for the first time in 1995.  In 2001 he began working for a Boston-based private detective agency as a licensed private investigator to supervise statewide cases in the Midwest, focusing primarily on field investigation of insurance claims.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Brett moved from private sector to governmental service, was named as a Special Investigator and retained by the Federal Investigative Service, U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and federally adjudicated a security clearance for access up to and including “Top Secret” in matters pertaining to national security.

In 2006 he joined the Interstate Bureau of Investigation, where he served as Chief Executive Officer and later as Director of Operations, overseeing all daily activities and staff investigators.  In 2009 he left IBI to form The Magnus Group, where he currently serves as president.  He holds a state-issued plain-clothes investigator license as well as owning The Magnus Group's detective agency license.

Additionally, Brett is currently the president of the Nebraska Association of Licensed Private Investigators, a professional member of the Sigma Delta Chi Society of Professional Journalists, and a former panel speaker to the office of the federal public defender for the district of Nebraska.  He has been a bonded public official since 1999 and has served in the public trust with a perfect operational record.
